There is no Light Temple in Ocarina of Time, the medallion of light is given as soon as we recover the Master Sword. I wanted to do a Level Design exercise by creating a 3D Map but by having to create this Map as if it was a proposal for Ocarina of Time. The game is over and went out for 20 years, we must imagine how to create a Temple without damaging the player's experience and therefore the difficulty or learning curve. It is therefore necessary to choose the placement of the Temple in the story and take into account what level of difficulty the player is and what he already has in his inventory.

I decided to place the Light Temple just after the recovery of the Master Sword

Step 1 : Light Temple, Version 1

To create the Light Temple without destroying the entire game Difficulty curve :

  • I calculated the difficulty of the Deku Tree and the Forest Temple with a Rational Level Design Process. 

  • The 2 difficulty curves permited me to have an idea about the difficulty of the Light Temple.

  • After having an idea of the difficulty of the Light Temple, I've created a Top View Map.

  • When the Top View Map was done, I decided to create the complete Workflow of the Temple.

  • Then I finished with modelize the Temple on 3D on Blender.

Step 2 : Calculate the difficulty of Light Temple and testing

I use the same process, Rational Level Design to calculate the difficulty of Light Temple in order to compare the three curves. And here are the problems I identified :

  • I forgot the Map, the Compass, Pots

  • The Room I called "Platform puzzle Room" is too difficult, this room is a difficulty spike of the temple, which is fine, but the spike is too high compare to the spike we can find in Forest Temple.

  • 3D map on Blender isn't optimized and doesn't have the right size.

Step 3 : Light Temple, Version 2

  • Add Map, the Compass, Pots

  • Tweak "Platform puzzle Room" to balance the spike.

  • Update the top view map.

  • Update the 3D map on Blender

  • After all this change, the difficulty of Light Temple seems better.
